Carriage Arrives from Westrail in Tuam
27th November 2004

CIE Open Standard No. 1468

The CIE Bogie Brake Parcel Van was built in Inchicore Works in 1954 and was sold to the Great Southern Railway Preservation Society in mid 1980's. This was then sold to Westrail Ltd Tuam in 1991, fitted with a Generator, and used on their steam specials from Athenry to Galway.

It has been lying idle in their carriage shed since 1994, where unfortunately it has suffered badly from vandalism.

Due to the possible re-opening of the Western Corridor the carriage was sold to The Cavan & Leitrim Railway on the 27th November 2004 and recovered on the same day.

The plan is to restore the carriage on site where it will be used as a book Shop and volunteer accommodation Grounded in Dromod Station.
